Acceptable use policy
Draft of 16 October 2026
This policy sets out what CaptiFi Connect must not be used for. It forms part of our terms of service and applies to everyone who uses an account, through the dashboard or the API. If you break it, we may block texts, suspend or close your account, and report what happened to the mobile networks, the ICO or the police.
1. Only text people who want to hear from you
- Send marketing texts only to people who have consented to receive them, or who are covered by the soft opt-in under PECR.
- Don't use bought, rented, shared or scraped lists of numbers for marketing.
- Send service texts, such as appointment reminders and order updates, only to people who have given you their number and would expect to hear from you.
- Make it clear in every text who it is from.
- Give a simple way to opt out in every marketing text, and stop texting anyone who opts out. Don't take a number off your opt-out list unless the person has asked to hear from you again.
2. What you must not send
You must not use the service to send, or try to send, any of the following.
Spam
Unsolicited bulk texts, or texts to numbers that were generated at random or in sequence.
Phishing and fraud
Texts that try to get people's passwords, bank details or security codes, fake requests for payment or delivery fees, links that hide where they really lead, or any other attempt to deceive people for gain.
Impersonation
Texts that pretend to come from another person, business, bank, government department or public body, or that use a sender name you have no right to use.
Harassment
Threatening, abusive or bullying texts, or repeated texts to someone who has asked you to stop.
Illegal content
Anything that breaks UK law or helps someone else to break it, including defamatory content, content that stirs up hatred or violence, and content that promotes illegal goods or services.
Harmful links
Links to software or websites designed to damage devices or steal data.
[Sectors that need our written agreement before sending, if any, to be confirmed]
3. Sender names
- Ask only for a sender name that belongs to your business or that you have the right to use.
- We may check requests against the MEF SMS SenderID Protection Registry, and we refuse names that imitate another brand, a public body or a well-known service.
- We may withdraw a sender name that is misused.
4. Looking after the service
- Don't try to get around account checks, sending limits, opt-out handling or any other control in the service.
- Don't share your account or API keys with anyone outside your business.
- Don't try to get into other accounts, test our security without our written permission, or interfere with the service or the networks it uses.
- Don't use the API in a way that puts unreasonable load on the service.
- [Confirm whether customers may send texts on behalf of other businesses, and on what terms]
5. Reporting abuse
If you've received a text sent through CaptiFi Connect that you think breaks this policy, email support@captificonnect.co.uk with the number or name it came from, when it arrived and what it said. If it came from a mobile number, you can also reply STOP to stop further texts from that business.
6. What we do about breaches
We look into every report. Depending on what we find, we may:
- block or hold texts;
- withdraw a sender name;
- suspend or close the account; and
- keep records and share them with the mobile networks, our SMS providers, the ICO, the police or other authorities.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll email account holders before a change takes effect, unless it's needed sooner to deal with abuse or to meet a legal requirement.
