CaptiFi Connect

For people who get our texts

Had a text from a business that uses CaptiFi Connect?

CaptiFi Connect is a texting service UK businesses use to send texts to their customers. If one of them has texted you, here's who it was, how to stop it, and what to do if it looks wrong.

The short version

The text came from a business, usually one you've booked with, bought from or signed up to. To stop texts from it, reply STOP. If the text came from a name rather than a number, or you think it's a scam, don't reply: read the steps below.

Who sent it

The business did. CaptiFi Connect carries texts for UK businesses, a bit like a postal service, but the business decides who it texts and what it says, and the text should tell you which business it's from. Marketing texts need your consent, or the soft opt-in, which covers a business that got your number when you bought from it and gave you a chance to say no. Those rules come from PECR, the UK regulations on marketing by phone, text and email.

We check every business before it can send, and our acceptable use policy only allows marketing texts to people who have agreed to them or are covered by the soft opt-in.

How to stop texts from that business

Reply STOP (UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT and OPT OUT work too, in capitals or not). Your number goes onto that business's opt-out list at once, anything it had scheduled for you is cancelled, and its texts to you are refused from then on. Text START or UNSTOP if you change your mind.

Opting out covers that one business. Other businesses that use CaptiFi Connect keep their own lists, so you'd reply STOP to each of them.

Some texts show a name such as a shop or brand instead of a number. You can't reply to those. Contact the business directly, or email support@captificonnect.co.uk with the name and when the text arrived, and we'll look into it.

If it looks like a scam

Don't reply and don't tap any links. Ofcom advises against replying to texts from senders you don't recognise, even to opt out, because a reply tells the sender your number is in use.

  • Forward the text to 7726. It's free, and it lets your mobile network look into the sender (Ofcom's guide to 7726).
  • Report spam texts to the Information Commissioner's Office using its online form.
  • Tell us at support@captificonnect.co.uk with the number or name and the time, so we can check whether it went through CaptiFi Connect and act on it if it did.

Your details

The business that texted you decides what it keeps about you. To see, correct or delete it, ask the business. If you ask us, we'll pass your request on. Our privacy notice explains what we hold and why.

Questions people ask

Did CaptiFi Connect send me this text?

A business sent it using CaptiFi Connect, which is a texting service. The business chose to text you and wrote the message; we carry it to your phone.

How do I stop the texts?

Reply STOP to the text. UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT and OPT OUT work too. Your number goes on that business's opt-out list straight away and anything it had scheduled for you is cancelled.

Does replying STOP cost anything?

We do not charge you anything. Your network treats the reply like any other text you send to a UK mobile number.

The text shows a name and I cannot reply. What now?

Texts sent from a business name cannot take replies. Contact the business directly, or email support@captificonnect.co.uk with the name, the date and the time of the text and we will look into it.

I opted out by mistake. How do I get texts again?

Text START or UNSTOP to the same number and you will come off that business's opt-out list.
