What is MEF SenderID Protection Registry?

The MEF SenderID Protection Registry is a voluntary UK scheme that helps mobile networks block texts misusing a registered business sender name.

The Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF), a mobile industry trade body, ran the registry as a trial from 2019, backed by Mobile UK, UK Finance and the National Cyber Security Centre. Organisations register the sender names they text from. The networks then use a blocklist from the registry to stop lookalike versions of those names, and genuine names that arrive through a route the owner hasn't authorised. MEF points out that the registry can't block anything itself, because texts don't pass through it; the networks do the filtering.

When you request a sender name in CaptiFi Connect, staff check it against the registry before approving it. A name close to a protected brand will be refused, so a name built from your own trading name is the safest choice.
