What is Sender ID?

A sender ID is whatever shows as the sender of a text: either a phone number people can reply to, or a short business name.

UK businesses text from one of three kinds of sender ID: a mobile number (sometimes called a long number), a short code, or an alphanumeric name of up to 11 characters. The choice matters because names can't receive replies and numbers can. Names are also easy to fake, so UK networks use the MEF SenderID Protection Registry to block registered names when they arrive through a route their owner hasn't authorised.

A florist in Bath might send order updates as 'BathBlooms' so customers recognise them straight away, and use a mobile number for anything where the customer might want to reply about a delivery time.

In CaptiFi Connect, one-to-one texts sent without a sender name go from a UK mobile number, and replies to them land in your inbox. Campaigns go through a licensed A2P route, under your approved sender name or our default sender. To send as your business name, request it in the dashboard; staff check every request, including against the MEF registry, before it can be used. CaptiFi Connect doesn't offer short codes.
