What is Test key?
A test key is an API key that behaves like a live one but sends nothing and costs nothing, so developers can build and test an integration safely.
Building against a texting API with a live key means real texts to real phones and real money, every time you run your tests. A test key lets you run the whole flow (sending, statuses, webhooks) without texting anyone, so you can get the code right before it goes near a customer.
A developer wiring up reminders for a Reading physio clinic can send a hundred test texts an hour while building, watch them move to delivered, and check the webhook handler, all without a single phone buzzing.
CaptiFi Connect test keys start cc_test_. Nothing sent with one reaches a phone: the platform simulates delivery, sends the same status webhooks a live text would (sent and delivered), and charges nothing. Test keys work while your account is still waiting to be checked, so you can build before you're approved. They're limited to 50 numbers a request and 300 numbers an hour, and they can't launch or cancel campaigns.
