What is P2P SMS?
P2P SMS (person to person) means ordinary texts between two people, typed and sent one at a time from a personal phone.
The term mostly comes up when people talk about what businesses shouldn't do. Mobile networks price SIM plans for personal texting, often with unlimited texts thrown in, and their terms generally bar using those SIMs for bulk or automated messages. A business that pushes its marketing through a phone, or a box full of SIM cards, risks having the SIM barred and losing the number along with it.
A café owner in York texting a supplier from her own phone is P2P. The same owner texting 400 regulars about a new menu isn't, even if she types it on the same handset.
CaptiFi Connect keeps conversations on real UK mobile numbers, so from the customer's side they look and behave like any other text thread: they can reply, and the conversation carries on. Campaigns and texts from a sender name take the A2P route, which is built for bulk traffic.
